X-Men suffer loss to Tigers

The Dalhousie Tigers (2-15-1) picked up only their second win of the season Friday night in Halifax at the expense of the StFX X-Men (9-7-1), skating to a 5-3 victory. The loss came after the X-Men posted two victories last weekend at home.

The Tigers rallied from a 3-1 deficit to score three unanswered goals, two on the power play, for the 4-3 edge, then added an empty netter. Bobby Nadeau earned the win in nets with 24 saves. Morgan Clark took the loss for StFX.

Shots were even in the game at 27-27 apiece.

Patrick Daley opened the scoring in the game for the Tigers four minutes into the first period on a Fabian Walsh set-up.

Freshman X-Men forward Blake Gal tied it up at 11:13 from Nathan Chiarlitti and Jason Bast.

Bast's assist marked his 100th AUS career regular season point. He went on to assist on the X-Men's next two goals as Rob Slaney and Brandon Hynes netted goals only 25 seconds apart late in the second frame. Ted Stephens picked up an assist on the Hynes goal.

The X-Men held the 3-1 advantage after 20 minutes of play.

Brett Plouffe chipped away at the X lead with the Tigers first power play goal 4:36 into the second period. Fabian Walsh and Luke Madill had the helpers.

Brad McConnell notched the equalizer less than two minutes later from Patrick Daley and Andrew Wiggington as the teams headed into third period action deadlocked at 3-3.

Wiggington's power play goal 2:37 into the third period would hold up as the game winner. Patrick Vandall assisted.

Daley picked up the empty net goal with 10 seconds left on the clock to round out the scoring for the Tigers.

The X-Men must quickly regroup as they will host the CIS ranked No. 3 and AUS first palace Acadia Axewomen (14-1-2) Saturday night at the Keating Centre. Puck drop is 7:00 pm.
