Nejmanova and Day named athletes of the week

X-Women volleyball middle Aneta Nejmanova was named the StFX Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 10, 2013. Aneta, a first year Human Kinetics exchange student from Prague, Czech Republic, led the X-Women with 16 kills and six blocks Saturday afternoon in their close 3-2 loss to UNB. Aneta also had one service ace and seven digs in the five-set match. She is currently second in team scoring and seventh in the AUS conference with 166 total kills and 2.59 kills/set. She leads the AUS in block stuffs with 45 and is third overall in total blocks with 68.

X-Men hockey defenseman Josh Day was named the StFX Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 10, 2013. Josh, a fourth year arts student from St. John’s, NF scored the game tying goal with 6:41 left in the game as the X-Men went on to defeat CIS ranked No. 4 Saint Mary’s 4-3 in a shootout Friday night in Halifax. The veteran defenseman finished the season sixth overall in AUS scoring amongst defenseman with 16 points, including seven goals and nine assists. He will be called upon to anchor the X-Men blue line heading into the upcoming AUS playoffs.
