No. 4 Axemen shutout X-Men

The X-Men hockey team wrapped up weekend play with a disappointing 4-0 loss to the CIS ranked No. 4 Acadia Axemen Saturday night in Wolfville.

The Axemen dominated the X-Men in the shot department, firing 49 shots at first year X netminder Bryan Gillis, compared to StFX’s 17 shots in the game.

\r\n

Andrew Clark scored Acadia’s first goal at the 12:05 mark of the first period. Spencr Jezegou and Ryan Graham followed up with second period markers as the Axemen held a 3-0 lead after two periods of play.

\r\n

Graham scored his second goal of the game with 1:02 left in the third period as Acadia goaltender Kristopher Westblom recorded their first shutout win of the season.

\r\n

Combined with the 4-2 loss to Saint Mary’s on Friday night, the X-Men fall to 9-10-3 on the season and remain in fourth place in the AUS standings with 21 points, 7 back of third place Saint Mary’s.

\r\n

Next on the schedule is a pair of home games against New Brunswick opponents. On Friday night, Jan. 29 the X-Men will host the 8th place Moncton Aigles Bleus (6-14-1) followed by a Saturday night game against 7th place St. Thomas (7-12-2). Both games are slated for 7:00 pm at the Charles V. Keating Cente.
