X-Men lose 7-4 to Huskies

The X-Men hockey team dropped a 7-4 game to the Saint Mary’s Huskies in Halifax Wednesday night in a rough game which saw three game misconduct penalties handed out.

The Huskies held a 2-1 first period lead with their goals being scored by Cam Fergus and Scott Hotham. Brett Robertson replied for X.

\r\n

The second period featured two more Saint Mary’s goals off the sticks of Colin Power and Cody Thornton. Ryan Rorabeck increased the SMU lead to 5-1 just 25 seconds into the third period.

Sean Flinn then scored two back-to-back goals for the X-Men, less then two minutes apart and Chris Hulit added the X-Men’s forth goal at the 6:48 minute mark to put the game at 6-4.

That was as close as they would get however, with Huskies Chris Morrison sealing the win with an empty net goal late in the period. X-Men goalie Ryan Aschaber recorded 45 saves in the losing effort for X, while Brandon Verge earned the win for Saint Mary’s.

With the loss the X-Men drop to 12-10-2 and currently sit in sixth place in the AUS, one point behind Acadia. They travel to Fredericton Saturday night for a game against the first place Varsity Reds (18-3-3) and will meet fourth place UPEI (13-9-3) Sunday night in Charlottetown.
