Battochio earns second straight shut out

The StFX X-Men trounced the visiting St. Thomas Tommies 10-0 Saturday night in Antigonish and X goalkeeper Danny Battochio earned his second consecutive shutout in as many nights.

Battochio turned aside 22 shots in the convincing win while Chris Hulit scored a natural hat trick in the second period as the X-Men now sit on a six-game winning steak.

\r\n

The X-Men led 1-0 after the first period on a powerplay goal by Jeff Caron and exploded for five goals in the second period. Brett Morrrison and Brett Liscomb each scored even strength goals then Hulit sniped three in a row to help the X-Men establish a commanding 6-0 lead after two periods of play.

The carnage didn’t stop in the third period as Kevin Undershute scored two goals for X, with Liscomb scoring his second goal of the game and Ricky Bowie notching a single marker.

\r\n

Will Colbert, Jeff Caron, Brett Morrison, Robbie Lawrance and Brett Robertson each contributed two assists a piece in the lopsided victory. X-Men forward Rob Warner suffered a season-ending broken ankle in the second period of the game.

The win improves the X-Men’s record to 10-5-2 and they currently sit in third place overall in the AUS conference. They travel to Dalhousie (4-12-0) Friday night and will play host to the Acadia Axemen (8-6-1) Saturday evening at the StFX Keating Centre. Game time is 7:00 pm.
