X-Men axed in Wolfville

After coming off a Wednesday night win at home, the X-Men dropped a 5-2 decision to the Acadia Axemen Saturday night in Wolfville.

Chris Bruton led the Axemen with a hat trick in the game and StFX was out shot 45-25 in the losing effort.

\r\n

X-Man rookie Tyson Aitcheson opened the scoring in the game with a goal at 4:38 of the first period but Bruton scored his first marker less then two minutes later. Jonathan Laberge scored in the second period for Acadia and Bruton tallied his second and third goals in the third period to establish a 4-1 Axemen lead.

Phil Mangan drew the X-Men closer with a third period goal at 16:27 but Paul McFarland sealed the win with an empty net goal.

\r\n

Kristofer Westblom earned the win in nets for the Axemen with 23 saves while Danny Battochio took the loss for X with 40 saves.

\r\n

StFX currently holds a 4-5-2 record, good for 10 points and 6th place overall in the AUS conference. They will host 8th place St. Thomas (1-7-2) Friday night at 7pm at the Keating Centre and 1st place Moncton (9-1-1) Saturday night, also at 7:00.
