X-Men take bite out of Tigers

The StFX X-Men picked up their fourth win of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers Wednesday evening at the StFX Keating Centre.

X-Men Player of the Game Danny Battochio made 41 saves in nets and two second period goals only 10 seconds apart helped seal the win.

\r\n

Brett Robertson opened the scoring six minutes into the game with a first period power play goal for the X-Men. Will Colbert and Jeff Caron assisted on the play.

\r\n

Rob Warner increased the StFX lead to 2-0 at the 11:35 minute mark of the second period, scoring a one-timer goal with a nice pass off the stick off Ricky Bowie. A mere 10 seconds later after the center ice face-off, the X-Men quickly made their way down ice and Brett Morrison beat Tigers netminder Josh Disher to score the X-Men’s third goal of the game. Assists went to Chris Hulit and Sean Donovan. Disher was pulled after the third goal and replaced by Chris Wall.

The Tigers finally hit the score sheet at the 12:26 minute mark of the third period with a goal from Dalhousie Player of the Game Chad McCaffrey. The X-Men were able to fiend off a 5-on-3 power play opportunity by the Tigers late in the final frame to hang onto the victory.

Dalhousie out shot the X-Men by a 42-32 margin and were 0-5 on the power play. Battochio earned the win in nets for X while Disher took the loss for the Tigers.

\r\n

The 4-4-2 X-Men now sit in a tie for fifth spot overall in the AUS conference with UNB, and will face the third place Acadia Axemen (6-3-1) on Saturday night in Wolfville.
