X-Men wrap up Calgary Cup with loss to Cougars

Calgary, AB – The StFX X-Men wrapped up their third game of the Calgary Cup pre-season invitational tournament with a 102-93 loss to the Mount Royal Cougars Saturday afternoon. The finish the weekend with a 1-2 record.

The X-Men were led by first year guard Avan Nava who exploded for 32 points in the game, 12 of which came from three-point range.

Veteran forward Azaro Roker scored 17 points and had 13 rebounds in a double-double effort, while Jaydan Smith netted 11 off the bench. Dondre Reddick and Michael Utsalo each contributed 9 points apiece.

The Cougars were led by Lincoln Anderson with 19 points.

Mount Royal built up a 23-18 lead after the first quarter and went up 56-44 at halftime.

The X-Men outscored the Cougars 49-46 in the second half but could not overcome the deficit as Mount Royal hung on for the win.

The X-Men will be back in exhibition action on Friday, October 18th. They host UNB in pre-season action at 7:00 pm on Coach K Court in the StFX Saputo Centre.
