X-Men basketball announces seven recruits

Antigonish, NS— Veteran men's basketball coach Steve Konchalski, entering his 39th season at the helm of the X-Men, is pleased to introduce seven new players to the StFX line-up for the 2013-14 season, the most since his first recruiting year in 1976-77. With five X-Men graduating, along with several other players moving on, Coach Konchalski has rejuvenated the program with an infusion of talented young players.

"Mixing in all this new talent with our returning veterans will be an exciting new challenge," comments Coach Konchalski. "Our fans can expect this team to go through some growing pains early in the year, but I believe as our young talent develops this will be the start of a new era of X-Men basketball."

At the guard position the X-Men will add Davonte Provo, Jameel Williamson and Julius Antoine. Six foot, one inch Davonte Provo, the most valuable player of the Halifax Metro league, led Auburn Drive to the Nova Scotia provincial title this year, while 6'2" Jameel Williamson, a transfer from Centennial College in Toronto, was an OCAA first-team all-star. Versatile 6'2" guard Julius Antoine from Thornlea Prep in Toronto rounds out the guards.

Up front, Coach Konchalski has added Alex Arthur, Tayo Shittu, Cameron Walker, and Kevin Bercy.

Siz foot, four inch Dalhousie transfer Alex Arthur of Toronto will lead a group of four freshmen who will provide the blue and white with rebounding as well as depth, two ingredients that were lacking this past season. Tayo Shittu, a 6'6", 230 pound power forward from Burlington, Ont. (Athletes Institute), will be joined by 6'7" Cameron Walker of Frisco, Texas, a two-time All-District player at Walkland HS. A front court swingman from Ottawa, 6'5" Kevin Bercy, a versatile inside-outside threat, played at REDA-Waterloo Prep this past year, completes one of the X-Men's deepest and most talented recruiting classes in several years.
