StFX teams wind down AUS action
Heading into the holiday break, the X-Women hockey team is currently ranked sixth in the country, having been nationally ranked throughout the entire season. With a 10-1-0 record they currently sit in first place atop the AUS standings with 20 points, one point ahead of second place St. Thomas. They will host the Windsor Lancers from the OUA in a pair of exhibition games on December 28th (7:00 pm) and December 29th (2:00 pm) at the StFX Keating Centre. AUS regular season games are scheduled to resume on January 5th and 6th, also at the Keating Centre. Saturday afternoon, January 5th, the X-Women will host Moncton (7-5-0) at 2:00 pm and on Sunday, January 6th the CIS ranked No. 10 St. Thomas Tommies (9-2-1) will be in town for a 2:00 pm game.

The X-Men hockey team closed out the first half of the season with a 9-5-2 record and are fourth overall in the tight AUS conference, with 20 points. Only five points separate first through fourth places. CIS No. 2 ranked Acadia (12-3-1) in is first place with 25 points, followed by CIS No. 4 UNB (12-4-0, 24 points) and CIS No. 7 Saint Mary’s (11-4-1, 23 points). The X-Men are idle over the holiday break but will resume regular season action at home on January 4th and 5th. Friday night, they will host the fifth place Moncton Aigles Bleus (7-6-3), followed by a Saturday night game against the eighth place St. Thomas Tommies (2-13-1). Pucks drop both evenings is 7:00 pm.

On the volleyball court, the X-Women sit in the middle of the pack tied for fourth place with a 3-6 record in AUS competition. They are coming off a three-game losing skid and are looking to get back into the win column in the new year. They have a month off until AUS regular season action resumes in 2013. The X-Women will be on the road to Memorial University in St. John’s on January 12th and 13th for games against the sixth place Sea-Hawks (2-6). 

In basketball action, the X-Women are enjoying a 4-3 record as they are currently tied for second place with Dalhousie (5-2) in the AUS conference as both teams have 14 points. They are six points back from the first place and CIS ranked No. 4 Saint Mary’s Huskies (7-0). The X-Women will be participating in the Saint Mary’s Holiday Classic December 28-30th in Halifax in exhibition action. On December 28th they will play Acadia at 4:00 pm, followed by a 4pm game on the 29th versus Lakehead out of the OUA conference. The tournament wraps up with a December 30th game against Manitoba at 12 noon. The X-Women resume AUS regular season action on January 5th at Dalhousie University.

The X-Men basketball squad is in third place in the AUS conference, with a 4-3 record to start the first half of the season. With 10 points, they are behind the first place and CIS ranked No. 4 Cape Breton Capers (7-0, 18 points) and the CIS No. 2 Acadia Axemen (6-0, 16 points). They will be competing at the 22nd annual Rod Shoveller tournament at Dalhousie University December 29th-31st in Halifax and are the two-time defending tournament champions. They have won six Shoveller titles in the past 11 years and eight overall at the holiday event. Their first game is scheduled for Saturday, December 29th at 3:00 pm versus Laurentian University. Game times on the 30th and 31st will be determined based upon the wins and losses from the first day. The X-Men will be back at Dalhousie on January 5th to resume AUS regular season play as they take on the seventh place Tigers.

The X-Women and X-Men track and field teams are set to begin their indoor season in the New Year. Members of both teams will be competing in the first AUS meet of the season, scheduled for January 12th in Moncton.
