X-Men tame Huskies in AUS season finale
On the strength of a second-half offensive explosion, the StFX X-Men (9-11) wrapped up the AUS regular season with a 95-72 win over the Saint Mary’s Huskies (6-14) Saturday night at Oland Centre in Antigonish.
 
The blue and white outscored the visitors 56-38 in the final 20 minutes of the game, including 29-14 in the pivotal third quarter.
 
On senior night, Jeremy Dunn, a fifth-year X-Man from Wolfville, N.S., finished his final game at Oland Centre with 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
 
Tyrell Vernon, a fifth-year point guard from Hamilton, Ont., led the X-Men with 18 points, while adding two rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Fourth-year guards Will Donkoh (Ottawa) and Jordan Clarke (Oakville) added 16 and 15 points, respectively. Donkoh added six rebounds, four assists and one steal, while Clarke also chipped in three rebounds and three assists.
 
All five X-Men starters, including Rodrigo Madera, with 13, scored in double figures. Madera completed a double-double with 12 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.
 
For the Huskies, who did not make the playoffs, Kadeem Thompson was the scoring leader with 21 points off the bench. Kadeem Scott, with 17, and Kevin Scott (11) were the other Saint Mary’s players in double digits. Harry Ezenibe added six points, 11 rebounds, one assist and one steal for the Huskies.
 
Next up for the blue and white are the Subway AUS Men’s Basketball Championships, March 1-3, at the Halifax Metro Centre. The X-Men will face the Dalhousie Tigers (11-9) in quarter-final action Friday night.
