X-Men record win, loss at home
The StFX X-Men scored a win and a loss in weekend home games versus the Memorial Sea-Hawks in AUS basketball play.

Sunday afternoon, the visitors outscored the X-Men 30-19 during the fourth quarter in an 80-76 come-from-behind victory. The win was a big one for the Sea-Hawks as it marked their first of the AUS season after 13 consecutive losses.

The loss was costly for the X-Men who missed out on a potential four-point gain in the AUS standings.

Vasilije Curcic led the SeaHawks with 22 points and eight rebounds in the game. Noel Moffat and Ryan Wood also scored in double digits with 20 and 12 points, respectively.

Senior guard Will Donkoh recorded a double-double – 23 points and 10 rebounds – for the X-Men in the loss. Point guard Tyrell Vernon added 20 points, while Jordan Clarke chipped in 15.

The X-Men held leads of 21-6 and 45-33 after the first and second quarters. Their 57-50 lead after three quarters quickly evaporated as the Sea-Hawks went on a 16-0 run to open the final frame, playing tight defense as the X-Men could not regain the lead.

StFX was without the services of fifth year veteran forward and team leading scorer Jeremy Dunn for both weekend games.

On Saturday night, after storming to a 52-19 halftime lead, the X-Men cruised to a 94-73 thumping of the Sea-Hawks.

Vernon led four X-Men in double figures with 23 points. Shane Coupland scored 19, while Donkoh and Rodrigo Madera collected 17 and 11 points, respectively. Donkoh led the blue and white on the boards with 13 rebounds, while Clarke dished out six assists.

The X-Men recorded 18 steals, including four apiece for Vernon and Jordan Tyrrell. Curcic led the SeaHawks with 27 points and seven rebounds.

With the weekend split of eight points on the line, the X-Men (6-7) find themselves in fourth place with 18 points, two back of UPEI (8-4) and two up on Dalhousie (6-7). They return to action Saturday, Feb. 2 when they host the third place Panthers. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Oland Centre.
