X-Men easily handle Tigers

The CIS ranked No. 3 X-Men basketball team extended their unbeaten streak to 14-0 and remain the only undefeated team in the country after a decisive 84-64 win over the visiting Dalhousie Tigers Sunday afternoon at the StFX Oland Centre.

The X-Men put forth a well-rounded team effort for the win and had four players in the double scoring figures. The blue and white held an early 19-16 lead after 10 minutes of play then doubled the Tigers 24-12 in the second quarter to build up a 43-28 half-time lead. The X-Men rolled away in the third quarter, outscoring Dalhousie 23-16 en route to the eventual 84-64 win.

Christian ‘T-Bear’ Upshaw scored 17 points for the X-Men and added 8 assists, while Jeremy Dunn tallied 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Chad Warren came off the bench to score 16 points, including 3 for 4 from three-point range. He also chipped in with 3 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal and earned honors as the Subway Player of the Game. Alberto Rodriguez contributed 11 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals for the blue and white.

Replying for the Tigers was Simon Farine with a game-high 29 points, along with 9 rebounds and 2 assists. Joseph Schow scored 14 points and had 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks.

The Tigers fall to 10-6 on the season and currently sit in a tie for third place with Saint Mary’s (11-5) as they each have 26 points. The X-Men (14-0) are in second place with 38 points, two back of the first place Cape Breton Capers (14-1).

\r\n

The X-Men have a couple games on the road coming up in the next week as they travel to Wolfville Saturday to face the Acadia Axemen (4-9), followed by a Wednesday night game at Cape Breton where they will face the Capers for the first time this season.
