Basketball X-Men extend AUS unbeaten streak

The CIS ranked No. 3 X-Men were led by Jeremy Dunn and Christian Upshaw who scored 14 and 10 points, respectively in the fourth quarter as they earned a 76-66 victory against Acadia in Wolfville Friday evening.

With a 48-46 lead heading into the final frame, the X-Men outscored the Axemen by a 28-20 margin in the final 10 minutes to seal the win. The teams played close basketball throughout the game as the Axemen established an early 17-15 lead after the first quarter then the X-Men came back for a 35-30 half-time lead.

Christian ‘T-Bear’ Upshaw, reigning AUS MVP and the third leading scorer in the conference, again led the X charge as he has in many games to date, scoring 20 points and adding 6 assists. Wolfville native Jeremy Dunn scored 17 and had 5 rebounds, while Alberto Rodriguez contributed 15 points and 9 rebounds for the blue and white. Will Donkoh and Will Silver each scored 9.

Replying for the Axemen was Alex Traikov with 19 points and 6 rebounds, while teammates Anthony Sears and Casey Fox each scored 13 points a piece.

With the win the X-Men extend their unbeaten streak to 10-0. They currently sit two points behind the first place Capers (9-1). The Axemen fall to 4-7 in fourth place.

Next on the AUS schedule for the X-Men is a Wednesday night game in Halifax against the third place Saint Mary’s Huskies (8-3). The Huskies and Capers are set to tangle Saturday night.
