2019 AUS fall sports schedules released

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Atlantic University Sport released the 2019 fall sports schedules today, including women's rugby, men's football, men's and women's soccer as well as men's and women's cross country. Hosts for the 2019 fall championships were also confirmed.

Rugby

In women's rugby, the reigning AUS and U SPORTS champion StFX X-Women will visit the UPEI Panthers in Charlottetown, P.E.I., on opening day, Saturday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. The Acadia Axewomen will host the Saint Mary's Huskies at the same date and time in Wolfville, N.S.

The X-Women will host the Huskies in their home opener the following week on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m.

The Huskies home opener will take place Saturday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. They will play host to the Axewomen.

The 2019 Subway AUS Rugby Championship will once again feature a three-team playoff format. The team that finishes third in the regular season standings will visit the second-place team in Week 7, with the winner moving on to visit the first-place team the following weekend in the championship final game.

The 2019 U SPORTS women's rugby championship is being hosted Oct. 31 to Nov. 3 by the University of Ottawa.

Football

Each of the conference's five teams will play eight regular season games over the course of a 10-week schedule.

The Bishop's Gaiters joined the Atlantic conference football league beginning in the 2017 season. This marked the first time since 1990 that a new team had entered the AUS football league.

The regular season will once again kick off in August, with opening day set for Saturday, August 24.

The defending AUS champion StFX X-Men will play host to the Mount Allison Mounties in Antigonish, N.S. at 2 p.m. ADT. The Acadia Axemen will host the Bishop's Gaiters in Wolfville at 3 p.m. ADT.

Mount Allison and Bishop's will host their respective home openers the following week on Saturday, August 31, with the Mounties taking on the Saint Mary's Huskies at 2 p.m. ADT in Sackville, N.B. and the Gaiters hosting the X-Men at 7 p.m. EST in Lennoxville, Que.

The Huskies—2018 AUS runners up—will host the Gaiters in their home opener Saturday, Sept. 7 at 3 p.m. ADT.

Mount Allison and Bishop's will host their respective Homecoming weekend games on Saturday, Sept. 28. The Mounties will host StFX at 2 p.m. ADT, while the Gaiters host Acadia at 2 p.m. EDT.

Saint Mary's and StFX will then host their Homecoming games the following weekend on Friday, Oct. 4. The Huskies will host Mount Allison and the X-Men will host Bishops, both at 7 p.m. ADT.

Acadia will host Saint Mary's in their Homecoming game Saturday, Oct. 19 ay 2 p.m. ADT. 

Regular season play will wrap up with two games on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. ADT. Saint Mary's will host StFX while Mount Allison hosts Acadia.   

AUS playoffs are set to begin the following weekend when the second-seeded team hosts the third-seeded team Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. in the playoff semifinal.

The winner will advance to the 2019 Subway AUS Loney Bowl which will be played Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. and hosted by the top-seeded team.

The AUS champion will then move on to host the RSEQ conference champion in the 2019 U SPORTS Uteck Bowl Saturday Nov. 16.   

The Mitchell Bowl and Uteck Bowl winners will advance to play each other in the 55th Vanier Cup on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Telus Stadium in Quebec City, Que.

Soccer

All 10 AUS men's and women's soccer teams will see action on opening weekend Sept. 6 to 8.

The defending AUS champion Cape Breton Capers will open their seasons at home as they play host to the UNB Reds Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1 and 3:15 p.m.

The Capers men's team earned U SPORTS silver, and women's team U SPORTS bronze at last season's national championships. 

This season's Subway AUS Soccer Championships will once again be hosted by Cape Breton University in Sydney, N.S. This marks the second time the men's and women's championships will be hosted jointly. They will take place Oct. 31 to Nov. 3. 

The University of Victoria will host the U SPORTS women's soccer championship Nov. 7 to 10 while the Université de Montréal plays host to the men's national championship.

Cross Country

The men's and women's cross country teams will open up their season with the Dal/SMU Invitational Meet Saturday, Sept. 7 in Halifax, N.S. StFX will host the second meet Sept. 21 in Antigonish, N.S., while the third invitational meet will be hosted by Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S. on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The final invitational meet of the season will held Saturday, Oct. 12 and hosted by UPEI in Charlottetown, P.E.I. 

UNB will play host this season to the Subway AUS Cross Country Championships Oct. 26 in Fredericton, N.B. 

The 2019 U SPORTS Cross Country Championships will be hosted Saturday, Nov. 9 by Queen's University in Kingston, Ont.
