motionball is a national non-profit organization that empowers young Canadians to be leaders in their communities, raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics through inclusive social and sporting events.

The motionball University program was established to give Canadian university students the opportunity to create meaningful, relevant ways to support Special Olympics through their own on-campus initiatives and events.

All motionballU events are purposeful, fun, and inclusive – bringing together university students and individuals from the community with intellectual disabilities who participate in Special Olympics programs. Students are able to give back to a great cause while building meaningful relationships with the very individuals who are benefiting from their support: local Special Olympics athletes.

motionball now donates over $2 million to Special Olympics Canada Foundation annually, with a significant amount of this funding being generated by passionate university students.

Move for motionball - March 8-14, 2021

This event brought together students and Special Olympics athletes for a week-long, action-packed physical activity and fundraising challenge. Students registered on the StFX University team and competed alongside local Special Olympics athletes to track as much physical activity as possible, all while celebrating inclusion, sportsmanship and community building.

StFX’s Move for motionball event has already been completed. Participants tracked their physical activity (in minutes) on the motionball website for the entire week, including anything from a jog, walk, gym session or even a varsity practice. The StFX team complied 17,847 minutes in physical activity for the online event and raised just under $2000 for motionball and Special Olympics!

Marathon of Sport

StFX X-Men & X-Women student-athletes will plan a motionball Marathon of Sport event when Public Health and university directives allow. The event will feature teams of various varsity athletes participating alongside local Special Olympians in various stations and games. Instructions will be provided by our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) on how athletes will register their team. Each motionballU Marathon of Sport participant pays $20 to participate, then are given an individual fundraising link to raise money, and if they raise $50, they get their $20 registration fee back! Teams should consist of 10-12 people and complementary T-shirts and Pita Pit lunch will be provided!

Contact StFX SAAC liason Krista McKenna for more information on how to get involved today!
