NOMINATION FORM

The St. Francis Xavier University Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1976 and exists to honour those individuals who have contributed significantly to STFX sports as athletes, teams, or as builders. Those chosen inductees have exemplified the spirit and ideals of Xaverian athletics in their professional and community lives.

The STFX Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled annually each fall with the event open to the general public and no charge for admission. 

STFX Athletics is pleased to announce the Class of 2023 inductees into the STFX Sports Hall of Fame, including four athletes: Varouj Gurunlian (basketball), Tony Grassa (football), Tanya (MacMillan) Feltmate (soccer) and Sheila (Murrin) Smith (basketball); Laurence Streete (rugby, football and hockey), as a builder, along with the 1958-59 X-Men Basketball and 1983 X-Men Football squads in the team category. This date of the 2023 induction ceremony, which is open to the public, is Friday, October 6th at 7:00 pm at StFX’s Barrick Auditorium in the Mulroney Institure of Government building. The induction ceremony will also be live webcasted live by CLICKING HERE.

StFX SPORTS HALL OF FAME

GOALS
• To honour outstanding contributions which have enhanced St. Francis Xavier University's image and reputation through sport.
• To preserve, record, and celebrate our rich athletic heritage, traditions, and culture and use it to help pave the way for future success.
• To promote sport, and generate increased interest in a more inclusive Sports Hall of Fame.
• To provide fundraising opportunities for the Department of Athletics at St. Francis Xavier University. 

CRITERIA FOR INDUCTION

Athlete
The athlete's contributions to athletics at St. Francis Xavier University should be the primary criteria for nomination. Secondary factors to be considered include the athlete's achievements in provincial, national, and international competition. Consideration will be given to character, leadership, integrity, and non-athletic service to the University. St. Francis Xavier University's national player of the year award winners qualify for automatic induction after the minimum wait period. A minimum ten-year waiting period prior to induction.

Team
The interuniversity performance and contribution of the team should be the primary criteria for nomination. Must have competed with distinction at St. Francis Xavier University. Secondary factors to be considered are non-interuniversity competition and contributions to sport in general. This could include achievements at the national or international level. St. Francis Xavier University's National Championship teams qualify for automatic induction after the minimum wait period. A minimum ten-year waiting period prior to induction.

Builder
This includes members of St. Francis Xavier University, such as coaches, administrators, support staff, and alumni that have made a significant contribution or exhibited outstanding leadership that enhanced the Varsity X-Men or X-Women athletic programs. 

NOMINATION PROCESS
Nominations are accepted via nomination forms and via induction committee on an ongoing basis. Completed nomination forms may be submitted to the Director of Athletics and Recreation. Nominations are due on Nov. 30th of each year for consideration for the induction the following October. The inductees in each of the three categories will be honored at a dinner held in the fall every other year. Selections will be vetted by St. Francis Xavier University prior to any announcement. Each elected member will receive a certificate of induction and a keepsake award which may be a sketch or photo. The inductees will appear in the StFX Sports Hall of Fame under their specific category along with a sketch/photo and a short biography. 

INDUCTION COMMITTEE
• Director of Athletics and Recreation - Chair of Committee (non-voting)
• STFX Advancement Designate
• STFX Athletics Designate
• Two StFX Alumni Representatives 
• Community Representative

 

• All committee members shall serve a four year term

• Committee members are permitted to serve no more than two consecutive terms

• All committee members shall be knowledgeable in STFX sports history  

• The STFX Advancement designate shall be appointed by the VP, Advancement

• The STFX Athletics designate shall be appointed by the Director Athletics & Recreation

• The Alumni and Community representatives shall be nominated by the current Induction Committee
