X-Men take second spot at AUS cross country championship

Moncton, NB – The STFX X-Men claimed second place overall at the Atlantic University Sport Subway AUS Championship Sunday afternoon. The men's banner was won by the Dalhousie Tigers and Saint Mary's Andrew Peverill was the individual gold medalist.

Peverill posted a time of 25:22, eight seconds ahead of second place finisher Jacob Benoit (25:30) of the STFX X-Men. Will Cox of Dalhousie claimed bronze at 25:53.

"I had planned to take the lead and it was good to be pushed by Jacob [Benoit] on the last lap," Peverill said. "It was a fairly flat course, but with difficulties. I'm glad I did well."

In the team standings, the Tigers won the championship banner and trophy for the second time in a row, picking up 36 points. The X-Men finished second place with 52 points, followed by UNB in third with 60. Saint Mary's (93), Memorial (145), UPEI (159) and Moncton (181) rounded out the team standings in the 8km race that featured 53 athletes.

In addition to Peverill, Benoit and Cox as AUS all-stars, STFX's Graydon Staples, Jared Howse (UNB), Nick Robertson (DAL) and Hudson Grimshaw-Surette (DAL) earned spots on the AUS all-star team as the top seven finishers.
