Antigonish, NS – The STFX X-Women defeated the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues by a 7-0 score Thursday evening at STFX Stadium.

The game was rescheduled from September 25th after it was postponed from the hurricane.

The X-Women wasted no time getting on the board as veteran forward Amanda Smith (Ottawa, ON) scored in the opening minute off the first possession of the game.

The goal marked the 27th one in Smith's career and broke the STFX all-time career scoring record for the Education student in her fourth year of eligibility with the X-Women. The previous record of 26 career goals was set by Maureen MacSween who played with the blue and white from 1995 to 1999.

The STFX goals then came fast and furious as Hannah Yantha (Cambridge, ON) scored in the 15th minute off a pass from Smith, then the X-Women followed up with goals in the 19th and 21st minutes to take an early 4-0 lead in the game.

Caitlin Crichton (Ottawa, ON) scored on a high shot from 25 yards out and Bryn Jurus (Ancaster, ON) tallied after she found the ball off an Aigles Bleues deflection and directed a shot past Moncton keeper Chelsea Burnham (St-Jean, NB).

The four-goal lead held up at halftime as the X-Women had 12 shots on goals in the opening half compared to nil for the Aigles Bleues.

Moncton controlled possession early on in the second half, but were unable to solve the STFX defense.

Smith almost scored in the 54th minute as she headed a crossed pass from Aidan Miller (Chilliwack, BC) but Burnham came up with a big save in the Moncton net.

In the 65th minute Burnham stopped another Smith shot but the rebound came right onto the foot of freshman midfielder Meghan Cole (Moncton, NB) who easily deposited it, giving STFX a 5-0 advantage.

Smith, the Subway player of the game, scored her second goal of the night in the 72nd minute of play, then Miller scored the final X goal in the 90th minute at the end of the game as STFX closed out the 7-0 win.

The X-Women will be back in action tomorrow evening when they host the UNB Reds at 5:00 pm in their final regular season game.

The Aigles Bleues will travel to Sydney Friday night to take on the Cape Breton Capers.
