Soccer X-Women wrap up regular season

The StFX X-Women ended the AUS regular season with two scoreless ties.

Saturday afternoon, at Oland Stadium, the X-Women and visiting Acadia Axewomen were held off the score sheet. Maris Miller had six saves in the StFX net, while Axewomen keeper Taylor Grant replied with three saves.

StFX’s best chance came in the first half when midfielder Nicole MacNeil hit the cross bar.

Fourth year X-Women defender Meaghan Ramsden received Subway player of the game honors. The game marked the final one of Ramsden’s AUS career, likewise for fellow fourth year graduating  teammates MacNeil,  Stephanie Cameron, Kirsten Desjardins-Lorimer, Rachel Dragan, Vanessa Smykalski and Stacey Holland. Striker Olivia Zanette wraps up her fifth year of eligibility with the X-Women.

Friday afternoon, the X-Women played a tough game against the CIS ranked No. 4 Cape Breton University Capers tying them 0-0 in Sydney.

Maris Miller made six saves against the Capers for the shutout. Amanda Budden had four saves in the Cape Breton net as the home team Capers outshot the X-Women 12 to 7.

The blue and white ended the season with four consecutive ties, finishing the season with a 1-6-6 record, failing to qualify for the AUS playoffs.

The Subway AUS championship is slated for November 2-4 in Sydney, NS as the Capers will host.
