X-Women earn tie and win in pre-season play

The X-Women soccer team wrapped up pre-season exhibition play with a road trip to Cape Breton on Monday afternoon. They played to a 1-1 tie with the Capers.

StFX player of the game Stephanie Cameron set up fifth year veteran striker Olivia Zanette to score the lone StFX goal just ten minutes into the game. The 1-0 score held at half-time, but the home team Capers came back to tie the game in the second half.

The X-Women had 7-8 quality scoring chances, including a number of breakaways and a hit post by Cameron. Maris Miller minded the net for StFX.
In earlier exhibition action, the X-Women hosted the Acadia Axewomen on Friday afternoon at Oland Stadium, coming away with a 1-0 victory. Cameron scored the lone StFX goal early in the game in the 17th minute and it held as the game decider as Maris Miller earned the shutout victory in nets for StFX. Cameron was named the player of the game.

With the 1-0-1 exhibition record, the X-Women will now begin AUS regular season play this coming Friday, September 7th. StFX and Dalhousie will open the season with home and away games. The X-Women play in Halifax on Sept. 7th at 5:00 pm, while the Tigers will visit the X-Women on Friday, Sept. 14th in StFX’s open opener. Kick-off is slated for 5:00 pm at StFX Oland Stadium.
