X-Women Soccer earn two shutout wins

The X-Women soccer earned two big shutout wins this past weekend in AUS regular season play. Saturday the X-Women were victorious over Acadia 3-0 and Sunday StFX defeated Saint Mary’s 1-0. Currently the X-Women are ranked 4th in AUS standings.

Saturday afternoon StFX claimed victory over Acadia on home turf. The X-Women outshot Acadia 15-3. The game was scoreless until the forty five minute mark when Olivia Zanette fired an unassisted goal past Acadia’s goalie, Caroline Wood. X-Women’s Melanie Sunada (72:17) scored StFX’s second goal with a corner kick. The third and final goal was scored by Zanette, her second of the day and was assisted by Sunada.

StFX’s Anna Thompson took the shutout win in nets while Caroline Wood was tagged with the loss for Acadia.

Sunday afternoon X-Women hit the road where they took on the Saint Mary’s Huskies. The total shots for the game were 18 – 8 in StFX’s favour. The lone goal of the game was scored by StFX’s Nicole Melong (45:00). This was Melong’s second goal of the season.

Anna Thompson earns the shutout win, her seventh shutout this season. Jillian Cochrane took the loss for Saint Mary’s.

X-Women next see play at the AUS quarter finals against Saint Mary’s in Acadia November 5th at 3pm.
