X-Women soccer earn win and tie in weekend action

The X-Women soccer team played to a 1-0 win over the Mount Allison Mounties Saturday afternoon and a 0-0 draw against the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Sunday.

Veteran defender Nicole Melong scored the lone StFX goal in the 1-0 win over Mount A, the goal coming late in the game in the 81st minute on a penalty kick.

Anna Thompson earned the shutout win in nets for the X-Women, facing only two Mounties shots in the game. StFX managed six shots on Mount Allison keeper Elissa McCarron. Melong took home Player of the Game honors.

The offensive drought continued on Sunday as the X-Women managed just three shots on net to the Huskies four, as the two teams played to a 0-0 tie. 

Freshman goalkeeper Maris Miller was named Player of the Game for the X-Women.

StFX currently sits in third place overall in the AUS conference with 11 points and a 3-1-2 record. Dalhousie (4-0-2) owns top spot with 14 points followed by UPEI (3-0-3) in second with 12. 

The X-Women will travel to Wolfville, NS on Friday night for a game against the fourth place Acadia Axewomen (2-1-2), then follow up with a Homecoming game Saturday evening at 6:00 pm at StFX Oland Stadium against the first place Dalhousie Tigers.
