Soccer X-Women split games in NB

The X-Women soccer split a pair of games on the road this past weekend in New Brunswick as they earned a 1-0 win over Moncton on Saturday but fell 3-1 to UNB on Sunday.

In the game against the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues, the X-Women squeaked out a one goal victory as Olivia Zanette scored the lone StFX goal in the win. Goalkeeper Anna Thompson earned the shutout win for StFX, her third consecutive shutout of he season.

The blue and white were not as fortunate Sunday afternoon however, as the UNB Varsity Reds jumped out to a 2-0 half-time lead with goals from Elise Arseaneau (1st minute) and Heather Amberry (5th minute) early in the game.

Samantha Legacy increased the Varsity Reds lead with a second half goal in the 82nd minute and Zanette was able to break the shutout in the 87th minute for StFX, scoring her second goal of the weekend and only one in the game for the X-Women. Erika Erman earned the win in nets for the Varsity Reds while Thompson took her first loss of the season for the X-Women.

StFX outshot UNB by a 12-9 margin and Nicole MacNeil earned Player of the Game honors for StFX.

The X-Women (3-1-0) will host a pair of games on the coming weekend as Mount Allison (0-0-3) will be in town for a 1:00 game Saturday afternoon, followed by a 1:00 pm tangle with the Saint Mary’s Huskies (1-1-2) on Sunday.
