Thompson named AUS Athlete of the Week

Keeper Anna Thompson of the CIS No. 10 ranked and defending AUS champion StFX women’s soccer team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 12th, 2010. Anna, a fourth year Arts student from Calgary, AB, registered two shutouts in goal for the X-Women this past weekend. Thompson did not allow a goal against in 180 minutes as the X-Women earned a 2-0 shutout win over the visiting Memorial Sea-Hawks on Saturday and fought to a 0-0 draw with CIS No. 8 ranked UPEI Panthers on Sunday. Anna, a second team AUS all-star last season, turned away all ten shots on goal she faced in the two games.

Ross Hagen of the Dalhousie Tigers men’s soccer team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 12th, 2010. Hagen, the Tigers captain, scored all four of Dalhousie’s goals this past weekend as the Tigers opened the season with a win and a tie. On Saturday, he led his team with a pair of goals in a season-opening 2-0 shutout win over the visiting Acadia Axemen and on Sunday against the Université de Moncton, he added another two markers in a 2-2 tie. Ross, who was selected as the AUS Subway Player of the Game in both contests, currently leads the Atlantic conference with four goals. He is in his fifth year of a Commerce degree and hails from Calgary, AB.
