X-Women Soccer Announces Recruits

(Antigonish, NS)—StFX women’s soccer head coach Trevor Reddick is pleased to welcome three new additions to the 2011 X-Women soccer program. Gabby Bergh (Calgary, AB), Sonia Boucher (Aurora, ON) and Maura Woodman (Halifax, NS) have all committed to attending StFX University this fall.

Gabby Bergh is a 5’6” outside defender from Calgary, AB who attends Central Memorial High School and played club soccer with South West United. “Gabby is an athletic outside defender with the ability to attack space,” comments Coach Reddick. “She is a very smart player and reads the game extremely well. She has very good size and she will bring a physical presence to our team.”

Sonia Boucher hails from Aurora, ON and attends Dr. G. W. Williams Secondary School. A 5’3” versatile player who can play midfield or defense, she played her club soccer with the Richmond Hill Raiders. “Sonia is a very skillful player with great versatility,” says Reddick. “She is a two-way player with the ability to defend and attack with great effectiveness. She is excellent on the ball, and distributes very well with either foot. Sonia has great composure and she is very calm under pressure. She  is also a fierce competitor who has a strong desire to win.”

Halifax, NS native Maura Woodman attends Sacred Heart School of Halifax and played club soccer with Halifax Dunbrack. This 5’4” forward/winger is “a very talented player who is excellent on the ball,” according to Coach Reddick. “She turns extremely well, she has great quickness, and she loves to attack. Maura can strike a ball very well with either foot, which makes her a threat on either wing or up front.”

The three new players will join the X-Women when they open their fall training camp in late August. Atlantic University Sport regular season play commences on the weekend of September 10-11, 2011.
