X-Women soccer receives support

The X-Women soccer team received a ‘renovation rejuvenation’ this past month thanks to a generous donation from StFX Alumnus Blair McMullin. Mr. Mullin is a native of Halifax, NS who has been an X-Women soccer supporter through the years and this year decided to donate funds to the program to give their locker room a facelift.

With the donated funds, the X-Women were able to renovate their locker room and put down new flooring, complete with two varsity X’s in the tiles. The improvements to the locker room will help with recruiting, boosting team spirit and unity and help to develop a sense of pride in their team and surroundings. The X-Women take advantage of the space and often use it as a meeting room and study room during their off-hours from competing and practicing.

Head coach Trevor Reddick appreciates the continued support from alumni like Mr. Mullin, commenting, “We were very pleased to have Blair come on board again this year as one of our supporters and as a member of the X Varsity Club. He will continue to support our program as we build towards establishing excellence, in addition to assisting with building our Booster Club.”

X Varsity Club donors like Blair McMullin give StFX student-athletes the chance to pursue excellence not only on the playing field but in the classroom as well. The X-Women soccer team recently recognized their ten CIS Academic All-Canadians at the Department of Athletics annual celebratory breakfast. Academic All-Canadians are those student-athletes who have maintained an 80% average or higher while competing for a varsity team.

With ten Academic All-Canadians, the X-Women lead the way amongst all varsity teams at StFX in the total number of honorees. “I am really proud of the fact that women’s soccer has been leading the way over the past 5 to 6 years with Academic All-Canadians,” comments Reddick. “Our girls are working very hard to maintain academic excellence and I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
