Thompson & Morrison named AUS 1st team all-stars

The StFX X-Women had four athletes named as AUS all-stars this week. Midfielder Teresa Morrison and Laura Thomspon were named AUS first team all-stars while forward Eugenia Renderos and midfielder Melanie Hill were named AUS second team all-stars. The X-Women will be participating in the AUS championship this wekeend taking place at Saint Mary's University in Halifax. They meet the host Saint Mary's Huskies Friday at 3:30 pm in the quarterfinal game.

2008 Women's Soccer All-Stars Announced
October 29, 2008 (HALIFAX, NS) - Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce the 2008 women's soccer all-star teams as selected by the conference's head coaches following regular season play.

The undefeated, #2-ranked Cape Breton Capers led the way with four 2008 first team selections including 2007 all-Canadian and league MVP Kristina Weatherbie, who scored eight goals this season, giving her a school record of 44 for her five year career. Hannah Abenheimer, Caitlin Shaw and Jessica MacDermid were the other Capers selected.

Jeanette Huck of Dalhousie, the 2006 Rookie of the Year and Laura Breen of Memorial, the 2004 Rookie of the Year and this season's league scoring leader with nine goals were also selected.

The second place, #9-ranked Memorial Sea-Hawks had two players named to the second team, as did the Dalhousie Tigers, StFX X-Women and the Saint Mary's Huskies.

Memorial's Nichole Adams finished third in league scoring with seven goals while Dalhousie's Kate MacDonald is an all-star for the first time after leading her Tigers with four goals this season.

Memorial's Adams, SMU's Kelly Burgess, Dalhousie's Stephanie Collins, UNB's Isabelle Miles, StFX's Melanie Hill and Eugenia Renderos have all been all-stars previously. StFX's Renderos is a second team selection for the fourth time in four years.
