Antigonish, NS – The StFX X-Men played a pair of pre-season exhibition matches over the weekend and came away with two shutout wins.

Saturday afternoon they defeated the Acadia Axemen by a 3-0 margin, then followed up with a 1-0 win over UPEI on Sunday.

In Saturday's match, after a scoreless first half, veteran X-Men striker Dan Hayfield got the home team on the board with a goal in the 47th minute. Forward Quincy Meh netted their second goal at the 66 minute mark and midfielder Jordan Rao rounded out the StFX scoring late in the game, scoring in the 85th minute of play.

On Sunday afternoon, Tane Caubo's goal 35 minutes into the game was all the X-Men needed to hold onto a 1-0 win over the UPEI Panthers.

Head coach Graham Kennedy noted, "We played commanding soccer on Saturday against Acadia and got rewarded in the second half with three goals. On Sunday against UPEI we played an organized and disciplined Panthers team. We had lots of possession in the attacking half but little to show for it."

The X-Men have one more exhibition game remaining on the pre-season schedule. They will host Dalhousie on Saturday, August 31st in a 3:00 pm game at the Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex in neighbouring Guysbrough county.

Atlantic University Sport regular season play begins on Friday, September 6th when the X-Men host UPEI at 7:15 pm at StFX Stadium.
