Patrick Kyte named U SPORTS men's hockey athlete of the week

Katie Chomiak and Patrick Kyte named U SPORTS hockey players of the week

RICHMOND HILL, Ont. – Nipissing's Katie Chomiak and Patrick Kyte from STFX are named the U SPORTS hockey players of the week for the period ending February 12, 2023.

Academic program: Arts

Sophomore Katie Chomiak scored all four goals for Nipissing this weekend, carrying the Lakers to two overtime 2-1 wins against the previously top-ranked Toronto Varsity Blues. The pair of wins launched the Lakers up four positions to sixth in the U SPORTS women's hockey Top 10.

Chomiak and the Lakers finish off the regular season by hosting the ninth-ranked Waterloo Warriors on Friday and then travelling to Ontario Tech on Saturday.

Patrick Kyte of STFX had six points in two weekend wins to pick up player of the week honours. In Friday's 6-5 overtime win at Saint Mary's, Kyte scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, and added an assist as he received player of the game honours. The Pembroke, Ontario native followed with a nod as second star in the game Saturday with one goal and two assists as the X-Men defeated Acadia 4-2.

Kyte and the X-Men are back in action in the AUS playoffs this week. Their best-of-three series against Acadia starts on Feb. 15.
