X-Women volleyball athlete Catherine Thornton was named the StFX Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 3, 2013. Catherine, a second year Education student (in her fifth year eligibility) from Kobe, Japan played two strong games for the X-Women in splitting weekend games on the road. In Saturday’s close scoring 3-1 loss to UNB, Catherine was the player of the game with a game-high 21 kills for 23 points, along with 1 ace and 14 digs. In Sunday’s 3-2 come-from-behind win over Moncton, she scored 19 points with 13 kills, 1 ace, 20 digs and 5 blocks. Catherine is a three-time AUS all-star and former AUS MVP. She currently leads the conference in total kills with 214.

X-Men hockey goaltender Joey Perricone was named the StFX Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 3, 2013. Joey, a fifth year business student from San Juan Capistrano, CA was the player of the game in the X-Men’s 3-2 victory over CIS No. 6 ranked Acadia Friday night. The win kept the X-Men in the AUS playoff hunt as Perricone made several key saves in the game to contribute to the X victory. He recorded a total of 33 saves on the night in earning his seventh win of the season. Joey currently has a 7-6-0 record in AUS play with a 2.86 goals against average and a .902 save percentage.
