The 2012 fall season of varsity sports saw StFX athletes and coaches honored with numerous AUS and CIS accolades. Twenty-three X-Women and X-Men received recognition as AUS all-stars across the sports of football, women’s rugby, men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s soccer, while StFX athletes and coaches received eight AUS major awards. Both the X-Women and X-Men cross country teams won their respective AUS championship titles, as did the X-Women rugby team.

Veteran StFX cross country coach Bernie Chisholm received both the women’s and men’s AUS cross country coach of the year award, while Mike Cavanagh was the AUS women’s rugby coach of the year. Tyson Beukeboom took home her second consecutive AUS athlete of the year award in women’s rugby, and Connor McGuire did the same thing in men’s cross country as he was the two-time AUS individual champion and male runner of the year. McGuire was a double winner as he also received the AUS student-athlete community service award. His teammate Scott Donald was named the AUS male rookie of the year.

In football, Brett Hubbeard earned recognition as the AUS defensive player of the year for his efforts on the gridiron. Hubbeard was also named an AUS defensive all-star, while his teammates Devon Bailey and Jordan Catterall were AUS offensive all-stars. The X-Women rugby team took home a record number of nine AUS all-stars including Asya Bartley, Beukeboom, Olivia DeMerchant, Lisa Gauthier, Sara Kaljuvee, Magali Harvey, Lisa McGrath, Emma Taylor and Amanda Thornborough.

On the soccer pitch, Meaghan Ramsden was named an AUS first team all-star for the X-Women and Rachel Dragan was a second team all-star. From the X-Men, Max Maund earned AUS first team all-star recognition while Randy Ribeiro was a second team all-star. Rounding out the StFX all-stars were X-Women cross country runners Melissa Hardy, Natalie Kannenberg and Lynette Manual, along with X-Men runners McGuire, Donald, Lee Wesselius and Dennis Kayumba.

Looking at the CIS awards, four StFX athletes received CIS All-Canadian distinction, three were honored with national CIS awards and seven X-Women from the CIS championship team were named to the CIS tournament all-star team. 
X-Men football linebacker Brett Hubbeard was honored as a CIS second team All-Canadian, while X-Women rugby athletes Tyson Beukeboom, Magali Harvey and Amanda Thornborough were CIS All-Canadians in their sport. Mike Cavanagh garnered the CIS women’s rugby coach of the year award for the second time in his 14 year career.  X-Men cross country runner Connor McGuire added to his trophy case as he was honored as the CIS student-athlete community service award winner.

Beukeboom was impressive at the CIS women’s rugby national championship, hosted and won on home turf by the X-Women, as she received the CIS tournament MVP award in addition to being named a CIS tournament all-star. Joining her on the CIS tournament all-star team were Asya Bartley, Sara Kaljuvee, Magali Harvey, Beth McNeill, Emma Taylor and Amanda Thornborough.
