Running back Jordan Botel of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 14th, 2012.

Botel, a 5-foot-10 first-year player from Prince George, B.C., had 40 carries for 178 yards and a touchdown this past weekend as the Mounties defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies 25-12 to improve to 2-4 on the season and move into a three-way tie for second place.

Jordan’s 40 rushing attempts tied an AUS single-game record and his 105.7 yards per game average ranks him fourth in the nation. He currently leads the AUS conference in rushing yards (634), rushing attempts (141) and rushing touchdowns (5).

Botel’s 634 yards rushing through six games are already the most by any Mounties player in a single season since 1998 when former Hec Crighton Trophy recipient Eric Lapointe racked up 1,515 yards on the ground.

Defensive Player of the Week
Jerret Laycock

Acadia Axemen linebacker Jerret Laycock is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 14th, 2012.

Laycock, a fifth-year student from Riverview, N.B., recorded 4.5 tackles this past weekend, including 2.0 sacks for 12 yards in losses and added two forced fumbles in a 47-26 win over the StFX X-Men.

In just six games this season, Jerret already has recorded a career-high 5.0 sacks and is currently ranked third in the conference. The two forced fumbles were also the first two of his career.

With the win, the Axemen clinched first place for the second year in a row and will host the 2012 Subway AUS Loney Bowl game at Raymond Field on Saturday, November 10th.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Randy Roseway

Kick returner Randy Roseway of the StFX X-Men is the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week.
Roseway, a second-year Arts student from Ottawa, Ont., scored on a 99-yard kickoff return early in the first quarter this past weekend in a 47-26 loss to the CIS No. 9-ranked Acadia Axemen in Wolfville, N.S.

Randy tied the game at 7-7 at the time with the major. It marked the first kickoff return for a TD in the Atlantic conference this season and just the second kickoff return for a score in the nation in 2012.

Roseway, who now leads the AUS conference with an average of 29.3 yards per kickoff return (2nd in CIS), also recovered an onside kick for the X-Men in the loss.
