ANTIGONISH, NS --- StFX Athletics will honor the athletic accomplishments of their varsity athletes on Monday, April 8th at their annual Athletic Awards Gala. The event will take place at the StFX Charles V. Keating Centre main arena, and will be webcast live on www.ssncanada.ca.  

The event marks the culmination of the 2012-13 varsity sports season and serves as a celebration of excellence as the Department of Athletics recognizes the efforts put forth by their approximate 280 varsity athletes over the past year. The major award winners will be unveiled, including the StFX Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year, the Male and Female Community X-Cellence award winners and the StFX X-Ceptional award recipient, which recognizes an individual who goes above and beyond to contribute in a positive manner to StFX Athletics. This year will also mark an inaugural award to be presented to the StFX Coach of the Year.

The traditional varsity ‘X’s will be awarded to all varsity athletes who were members of AUS championship teams this past season. X-Men and X-Women cross country, X-Women rugby and X-Women hockey all captured AUS championship banners in their respective sports, as did five individual track and field athletes and three relay teams. The X-Women rugby team also won the 2012 CIS national title and will receive their championship rings on Monday evening. All AUS and CIS all-stars and major award winners will be recognized, and all first year StFX varsity athletes will receive their varsity X pin. Individual awards for each of the thirteen varsity teams will also be handed out by each head coach.  

StFX Athletics welcomes local fans, alumni, parents and family to view the annual evening of excellence live via webcast at www.ssncanada.ca. The live coverage will begin following the dinner portion of the evening, commencing at approximately 7:15 pm.
