William (Bill) Kiely (Class of 1967) has been involved with the StFX Department of Athletics in varying capacities as a builder and ardent supporter for the past fifty years. His involvement has spanned the areas of publicity, marketing, game announcing, sports writing and general advocacy for StFX Athletics. Bill started out in 1958 volunteering in the StFX press box, and in 1965 he took the microphone himself as the color commentator for X-Men football games. Within a few years he became the play-by-play announcer broadcasting all home and away X-Men games on CJFX radio, a position he held for18 years though to 1983. Subsequent to that, Bill has been the game day voice of X-Men football at Oland Stadium from 1984 through to the present season. He also supplied his talents announcing at the Atlantic and Uteck Bowls in Halifax and sporadically through the 1960’s and 70’s at some X-Men basketball games.

Bill has lent his voice to the StFX sports of rugby, cross country, volleyball and soccer over the years in addition to serving on numerous committees. He has been involved with Father George Kehoe Endowment Fund events, served on the President’s Advisory Committee on Athletics, chaired the Father Kehoe Golf Classic Committee, and served as the President of the national StFX Alumni Association. An advocate for StFX varsity athletics, Bill has been a loyal and steadfast supporter of StFX and his contributions as a builder to the Department of Athletics over the past fifty years are immeasurable.
