X-Women shutout Capers in exhibition action

New Waterford, NS – The STFX X-Women closed out pre-season exhibition play with a 3-0 victory over the Cape Breton Capers Saturday afternoon at the New Waterford Community Hub.

STFX was 2-1 in pre-season action.

Abby Steen opened the scoring for STFX in the 28th minute off a header, the lone goal in the first half.

The X-Women struck twice late in the game with goals from Lauren Seamone and Lauren Reid at the 79 and 80 minute marks, respectively.

Keepers Jo Pratt and Christina Gentile shared the shutout victory in the X net.

X-Women head coach Graham Kennedy noted, "We played a very solid game today against a top opponent in CBU. I'm pleased with our progress so far and the group is coming together nicely as we head into league play."

"The play of our first year players, in particular, was outstanding and complemented the fantastic work of veterans Amanda Smith and Jenna Burrows who took command of the midfield for us today."

The official start to the AUS regular season will take place on Friday, Sept. 10th as the X-Women travel to Charlottetown to face the UPEI Panthers.

Their home opener is slated for Sunday, Sept. 12th at 1:00 pm against Saint Mary's. A note to fans that due to NS Public Health outdoor gathering limits, tickets will not be available to the general public and will be available by invitation only to limited STFX and SMU parents and STFX guests. The game will be webcast live on www.austv.ca.
