X-Women shutout Mounties 2-0

Sackville, NB - The StFX X-Women defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 2-0 on Alumni Field Saturday evening, picking up their third win of the AUS season as they improve to 3-1-1. The Mounties (0-4-1) remain in search of their first win.

The X-Women started strong, dominating the first half of the game. Kelsey Ellis scored the first goal in the 19th minute. The second goal for the X-Women was scored by freshman forward Amanda Smith in the 37th minute as the 2-0 score held up until halftime.

The Mounties didn't stop fighting, keeping the score nil-nil in the second half of the game. MtA keeper Sophie Austin had 13 saves in the game in the losing effort.

Keeper Emma Kuzmyk picked up the shutout win in the X-Women net, facing only one Mounties shot on goal.

The Subway Player of the Game was awarded to veteran fourth year X-Women forward Kelsey Ellis.

Up next, the X-Women face the UPEI Panthers on home turf on Sunday, September 23. The Mounties face the Acadia Axewomen on Sunday at home. Game times for both matches are 1:00 pm.
