X-Women close out regular season with loss to Capers

Sydney, NS – The Cape Breton Capers took care of business on a rainy Saturday afternoon at CBU field, defeating the StFX X-Women 3-1 to lock up first place and a bye in the upcoming AUS playoffs.

The Capers (11-1-0) and X-Women (6-2-4) battled the elements all day in high winds to finish off the regular season. By finishing the season at the top of the AUS standings, the Capers will go straight to the semifinals on Friday evening. StFX finishes fourth and advances to the quarterfinal game on Thursday evening.

Scoring for the Capers in their victory was Keona Simmonds (Brampton, ON), Chelsea Currie and Ciera DiSipio (Ottawa, ON). Replying for the X-Women was Elise Brennan who scored in the second half to round out the scoring game.

DiSipio was named player of the game for her efforts. Trottier was in goal for the victory, while Nicole MacDonald took the loss for the X-Women.

The Capers host the 2016 Subway AUS Women's Soccer Championships November 3-6. The quarterfinals start on Thursday night at 5:00 and 7:30pm with the semifinals Friday night at 5:00 and 7:30pm, and the final being held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm.
