X-Women, Mystics battle in exhibition soccer match

Antigonish, N.S. – The StFX X-Women wrapped up pre-season action with a 3-2 home win over the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics Saturday afternoon.

Midfielder Chloe Brennan (Brookside, NS) opened the scoring for the home side in the fifth minute, while freshman midfielder Mercy Myles (Accra, Ghana) doubled the advantage six minutes later.

In the 70th minute, Alex Gosse (Bedford, NS) gave the X-Women a 3-0 advantage.

The Mystics tallied two late markers, from Kat MacKay and Jaimee Mulrooney (Chester, NS), in the 82nd and 89th minute, respectively, but they could not complete the comeback.

Erin Visser (Whitby, ON) earned the victory between the pipes for StFX.

The X-Women will open the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) regular season with a home matches versus the UPEI Panthers (Saturday, Sept. 10) and UNB Varsity Reds (Sunday, Sept. 11).

Kick-off both days is set for 1 p.m. at StFX Stadium.
