Soccer X-Women shutout twice by Memorial

ST. JOHN'S, NF - The StFX X-Women (5-5-1) battled the Memorial Sea-Hawks (7-1-3) over the weekend in a pair of AUS soccer matches, falling short on both accounts. 

In the second of the two-game road swing Sunday afternoon, the X-Women dropped a 3-0 decision to the home team.

Hannah Rivkin (St. John's, NL) opened the scoring in the 30th minute on an assist from Jane Pope (St. John's, NL).

Pope doubled the advantage for Memorial in the 43rd minute.

Jenny Bent (Conception Bay South, NL) tallied the lone goal of the second half, converting a set-up from Katie Goodland (St. John's, NL), in the 65th minute.

The Sea-Hawks finished with a 15-5 shots-on-goal edge.

Keira Eavis (Conception Bay South, NL) made two saves for the victory, while Nicole MacDonald (Kanata, ON) turned aside eight shots for the X-Women in the loss, who were shut-out for the second consecutive day.

Saturday evening, Jessie Noseworthy (St. John's, NL) tallied in the 52nd minute to give the Sea-Hawks a 1-0 win over the X-Women. Rivkin assisted on the marker.

The Sea-Hawks outshot the X-Women 15-4.

Eavis made two saves in the win, MacDonald collected four in defeat.

With the two losses the X-Women fall to fifth place in the AUS standings. Memorial are currently in third place with one weekend of play left in the AUS regular season schedule.

The X-Women will return to action Saturday, Oct. 31, when they host the Dalhousie Tigers at Oland Stadium, beginning at 1 p.m. They will wrap up regular season play on Sunday, Nov. 1 by hosting Saint Mary's.

Memorial will play games at Moncton (Oct. 31) and Mount Allison (Nov. 1) to close out the season.

The Subway AUS Championship is slated for Nov. 5-8 at Moncton.
