Antigonish, NS – The STFX X-Women played to a 58-0 victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies Friday night at STFX Stadium in their home opener.

With the win the X-Women now have a 1-1 record, while the Huskies fall to 0-2 on the season.

Fourth year prop Annie McMullon (Rothesay, NB) opening the scoring for STFX in the ninth minute of play after sustained pressure from the home team. Jill Griffith (Upper Tantallon, NS) converted to give X an early 7-0 lead.

Griffith then converted two more X-Women tries as Katie Douglas (Charlottetown, PE) broke through the Huskies defenders to touch down in the 18th minute, and prop Emma MacDougall (Halifax, NS) scored two minutes later.

STFX gained momentum and scored three more unconverted tries before the first half expired. Griffith tallied in the 26th minute to put the white and blue up 26-0, then Katie Murphy (Millville, PE) and Camryn Kleynhans (Durban, SA) punched across the try line in the final five minutes to give STFX a 36-0 halftime lead.

The second half saw the X-Women continue to spread out the scoring as Emma Langley (Hunter River, PE) scored STFX's seventh try of the match nine minutes into the half, bringing the ball in down the wing. The unconverted play gave the X-Women a 41-0 lead.

Maddie Weisshaar (Wilcox, SK) scored for STFX in the 62nd minute, jumping on a loose ball that had been kicked over the try line.

Both teams substituted several players into the game in the final 15 minutes of play.

Douglas scored her second try of the night in the 72nd minute after several nice offload passes. It went unconverted as the X-Women took a commanding 51-0 lead.

The Huskies pressured late in the half but could not get on the scoreboard.

McMullon rounded out the STFX scoring with two minutes to play as she scored her second try in the game, and Griffith booted her fourth conversion of the night to close out the 58-0 victory.

With 13 points on the night for STFX, Griffith received Subway player of the game honours.

The X-Women will look ahead to next Saturday, September 24th when they travel to Wolfville, NS for a 2:00 pm against the Acadia Axewomen.
