Antigonish, NS - The U SPORTS No. 7 ranked STFX X-Women wrapped up their regular season with a big 7-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties on Friday night at the Charles V Keating Centre.

Mount Allison goalie Kaitlyn Evelyn (Courtice, ON) was busy early in the first period, stopping two breakaways in the first five minutes. However, STFX forward Ellie Brown (Kemptville, ON) came in alone for a third time, and found pay dirt on the penalty kill at 5:36.

The lead didn't last long though, with Island Bernard-Docker (Canmore, AB) one-timing the puck home after a scramble in front of the STFX net at 9:55.

STFX kept up the pressure for the remainder of the stanza, out shooting Mount Allison 18-6 but the score remain deadlocked at 1-1.

The Mounties forced STFX goalie Jamie Johnson (Victoria, BC) to make a pair of breakaway saves in the first half of the second period, as Mount Allison worked hard to take a lead. With about eight minutes left in the period, another MtA breakaway led to a penalty shot after Makenna Percival (Victoria, BC) was pulled down. Percival took the shot but Johnson came out on top, maintaining the tie.

At 4:41, STFX forward Lea MacLeod (Dartmouth, NS) broke the deadlock, pouncing on a puck in the slot and put one in the top corner on the powerplay off a pass from Ella VandeSompel (London, ON). Just over a minute later, X-Woman forward Kamdyn Switzer (Stittsville, ON) tipped home a shot from Kya Moss (Port Moody, BC), again on the powerplay.

STFX leading scorer Maggy Burbidge (Falmouth, NS) made it a three lead at 4-1, wiring in a shot off a pass from Chloe Vukosa (Mississauga, ON), with just under a minute left in the period.

The X-Women lead in shots, 39-12 heading to the locker room for second intermission.

STFX scored again three minutes into the third period, with Landyn Pitts (Antigonish, NS) finding the back of the net off a pass from Chloe Oleksiuk (Winnipeg, MB). Dabrowski added her 15th goal of the season, finding the top shelf off a pass from Olivia Sutton (Calgary, AB) and Brown four minutes later.

It was Brown who next lit the lamp, with Josie Chisholm (Antigonish, NS) assisting about halfway through the period and the game finished 7-1.

Shots at the end of the game were 54-18 in favour of the X-Women. Brown's three points earned her Subway Player of the game and first star honours, with Dabrowski and Switzer named the second and third stars, respectively.

The X-Women will receive a bye into the semifinal round after securing second place in the AUS standings with a record of 20-5-3. The best-of-five semifinal playoff series will be scheduled between Feb. 22 - Mar. 2 as they await their opponent with the complete schedule to be announced following the AUS quarterfinal rounds.

Mount Allison has finished out of playoff contention, with a record of 2-23-2, and has one more regular season game tomorrow night against UPEI in Charlottetown.

Prior to the game the X-Women coaches honoured the graduating fourth and fifth year X-Women student-athletes including goaltender Jamie Johnson, defense Josie Chisholm and Lauren Dabrowski, forwards Lea MacLeod, Jayden Thompson and Chloe Vukosa, along with student therapist Melissa MacDonald.
