(SACKVILLE, NB) – The Mount Allison Mounties dropped a 5-0 game to the STFX X-Women Friday evening. The X-Women were with the additions of sharpshooters Lea MacLeod (Dartmouth, NS) and Maggy Burbidge (Falmouth, NS) who recently returned from their gold-medal performance with Team Canada at the Winter FISU World University Games.

It was a very eventful first period for the X-Women as they scored all five of their goals in the opening frame. The aforementioned Burbidge scored her team's first goal as a rebound found her in the crease for a tap-in. The X forward extended her U SPORTS goal scoring lead with her 21st of the season.

Lauren Dabrowski (Tiny, ON) found the back of the net at the 4:08 mark to bring the lead to 2-0.

Midway through the first period Megan Smith (Antigonish, NS) got the board with an unassisted goal of her own, the first one in her AUS career for the freshman forward.

Subway Player of the Game Kamdyn Switzer (Stittsville, ON) added two goals 16 seconds apart to force a goaltending change from the Mounties who brought in Bianca Zak (Stonewall, MB) for Hanna Pagdato (Winnipeg, MB).

Zak had yet another stellar performance in the Mounties net, after allowing just the one goal on 42 shots in the game.

Amaya Giraudier (Assiniboia, SK) turned aside all 25 shots she faced on route to the shutout win for the X-Women.

Switzer earned Subway player of the game honours for her two-goal performance. Ellie Brown (Kemptville, ON) and Kya Moss (Port Moody, BC) each had a pair of assists in the game for the blue and white.

StFX (16-4-2-1) will host UNB on Sunday, January 29 at 3 p.m. for the battle of the top two AUS teams.

Mount Allison (2-19-1-1) for their part will host UPEI on February 3 at 7 p.m. for the last home game of the season.
