X-Women fall to Aigles Bleues 4-1

Moncton, NB - The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues scored two late third period goals to defeat the STFX X-Women 4-1 at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena Tuesday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Aigles Bleues opened the scoring at the end of the second period at 16:39 thanks to Elodie St-Jacques (Emilie Lalancette, Clémence Dumesnil) on the power play.

The X-Women's counterattack for the tie came quickly after that first goal thanks to Chloe Vukosa (Jayden Thompson) at 18:14 and the second period ended in the 1-1 tie.

In the third period, the Blue and Gold regained the lead by scoring a second goal at 4:38 thanks to Maritza Labrie (Shani Rossignol).

Both teams then fought well, but the home team had an advantage on shots on goal. The Aigles continued their momentum by scoring a third goal at 15:41 thanks to Alexia Desforges (Lalancette, Erica Plourde).

That was followed closely 26 seconds later by her teammate Élodie St Jacques (Marie-Ève Ré, Dumesnil) who scored her second of the game to round out the scoring and close out the 4-1 win for Moncton.

St Jacques was selected as the Subway player of the game. Amaya Giraudier faced 31 shots in the X-Women net, while Annick Boudreau faced 17 for the win.

For their next game, the Aigles Bleues will play on the road against the UPEI Panthers on Friday evening. The X-Women will play at home against the St. Thomas University Tommies, also on Friday. Puck drop for both game is 7L00 pm.
