Antigonish, NS – The Huskies and X-Women took to the ice at the StFX Keating Centre on Friday afternoon in an exhibition match-up and the Huskies skated to a close 2-1 win as the teams prep for AUS regular season play that resumes next weekend.

Taylor Keeping's goal at 14:56 of the third period proved to be the game winner as she scored off a rebound on a delayed penalty call. Siobhan Birch and Brooke Murphy were in on the assists.

The Huskies found themselves down 1-0 after the first period as the X-Women took an early lead in the game, scoring 5:21 into play. Tyra Meropoulis took pass in the slot from Emerson Elliott and slid a low puck past Rebecca Clark in the Huskies net. Lindsey Donovan also had a helper on the play.

The X-Women outshot the Huskies 10-8 in the first period but the visitors turned it around in the second. They had 17 saves to StFX's five and were rewarded with a goal four minutes into the period.

Eve LeBlanc connected with Miranda Hatt to even the game at 1-1, tipping in her point shot on another delayed penalty call.

Dagny Hudspeth took over in goal for the Huskies midway through the period to split the time with Clark.

The X-Women had more shots in the third period with a 10-3 margin but could not find the back of the net as the Huskies held on for the 2-1 win.

Final shots in the game favoured Saint Mary's 28-25 as Hudspeth was credited with the loss. Jamie Johnson, with 26 saves, was tagged with the loss for the X-Women.

StFX will be back on home ice Saturday afternoon as they host the Dalhousie Tigers in another exhibition game. Puck drop is 2:00 pm.

The Tigers will then play Saint Mary's in exhibition action Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm in Halifax at the Saint Mary's arena.
