X-Women defeat Aigles Bleues 5-2

MONCTON, NB – The StFX X-Women got out to a 3-0 lead and kept up their strong play for a 5-2 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues Saturday evening at J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

Kristen McKinley scored in the first period, Kate Gotaas scored twice in the second period, including a shorthanded goal, and Hannah MacDonald also tallied in the second period to power the X-Women offense. Alley Goodreau scored an open net marker at the end of the third period to round out the StFX scoring in the game.

Jessica Bouchard scored both of Moncton's goals, one in the second and again in the third period, on the power play,

X-Women goaltender Cassidy McEwen had 19 saves in the winning effort for the visitors. Rookie Audrey Berthiaume had her baptism in AUS hockey with 28 saves, including 12 shots in the first period. Moncton was 1 for 4 on the power play and StFX, 0 for 2.

The Blue and Gold travels to Charlottetown Sunday for a game against the UPEI Panthers at 2:00 pm. The X-Women will next see action on Thursday when they travel to Halifax to play Saint Mary's.
