Halifax NS – The Saint Mary's Huskies edged the StFX X-Women 2-1 in pre-season exhibition play Friday night, avenging a 1-0 loss to the same X-Women squad last weekend.

The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the first period despite being outshot 13-2. Miranda Hatt scored the lone goal of the period at 10:50 from Katie Peddle.

Saint Mary's increased their lead with a goal from Sydney Elliott just over two minutes into the second period. Hatt had the helper with her second point of the night.

Emerson Elliott got the X-Women on the board as she connected with Santana Gravelle and Tyra Meropoulis on the power play at 9:44.

The X-Women went on to outshoot the home squad 14-9 in the middle period but could not solve Huskies netminder Rebecca Clark for the remainder of the period, nor in the third as well.

Final shots in the game were 33-29 in favour of the X-Women as Cassisdy McEwan had 27 saves for the X-Women in the losing effort. Clark turned aside 37 pucks with a solid effort between the pipes for the Huskies in the win.

The X-Women will return home to host the UPEI Panthers on Sunday afternoon. Puck drops at 3:00 pm at the StFX Keating Centre auxiliary arena.
