Antigonish, NS – The StFX X-Women nipped the Saint Mary's Huskies 1-0 in pre-season exhibition play Saturday evening at the Charles V. Keating Centre.

Emerson Elliott's shorthanded goal at 3:25 of the second period held up as the game winner as the X-Women picked up their second pre-season win of the weekend. They defeated Dalhousie 2-1 in overtime on Friday.

The teams played a cautious first period as each squad had eight shots apiece.

Despite being shorthanded, Elliott found the back of the SMU net for the lone goal of the game, with assists coming from Lindsey Donovan and Kate Gotaas.

Shots were 8-3 in favour of the X-Women in the middle period.

The game got more physical in the third period and despite each team having power play opportunities, no further goals were scored. Both the X-Women and Huskies were 0-for-3 on the power play. The Huskies fought off a double minor in the third period.

Saint Mary's pulled goaltender Rebecca Clark with just over a minute to play but were unable to score the equalizer. Clark had 14 saves in the losing effort for the Huskies.

Carley Molnar picked up the win in the StFX net with 20 saves in the game.

The two teams will meet again on Friday night, September 28th in Halifax. Puck drops at 7:00 pm at the Civic Arena.
