Antigonish, NS – The StFX X-Women outshot the Dalhousie Tigers 56-18 in exhibition action Friday night, but they needed overtime to pull of the 2-1 win.

Kate Gotaas (Sherwood Park, AB) scored the game winner with 36 seconds left to play in the extra period to seal the win for the X-Women. She was set up by freshman forward Kaya Brossard (North Vancouver, BC), along with Lindsey Donovan (Miramichi, NB) who had hit the post herself a minute earlier.

Dalhousie had opened the scoring in the game on a Tara Morning (Aurora, ON) marker just shy of six minutes into play. Autumn Moors (Ottawa, ON) had the lone helper on the goal.

The X-Women outshot the Tigers 13-7 in the first period and 16-2 in the second, but were unable to solve Fabriana Petricca (Woddbridge, ON) who was strong in the Tigers net.

The teams were scoreless in the middle period and despite exchanging power play chances in the third period were held scoreless until the 13:13 mark. Lydia Schurman (Summerside, PE) pushed the puck into the Tigers net after a goal crease scramble to even the game at 1-1. Alley Goodreau (Airdrie, AB) and Emily Power (Airdrie, AB) assisted on the play.

The X-Women continued to pressure in the third period but were unable to score the go-ahead as they outshot the visitors 15-7 in the final frame.

Overtime continued to create more chances for StFX, leading up to Gotaas' game winner. Cassidy McEwan (Lloydminster, AB) earned the win in the nets for the X-Women with 17 saves.

Petricca posted 56 saves in the losing effort for the Tigers.

Dalhousie will play another exhibition game on September 29th when they travel to Charlottetown to meet the UPEI Panthers.

The X-Women will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, September 22nd when they host Saint Mary's in a 5:00 pm exhibition game at the Keating Centre auxiliary arena.
