Moncton, NB – The U SPORTS No. 4 ranked StFX X-Women resumed their winning ways with a 6-2 victory over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues in the first game of 2018.

Veteran fifth year captain Daley Oddy (Cranbrook, BC) scored two goals and added an assist as the Subway player of the game led the X-Women to a win on the road.

StFX opened the scoring in the game as Brooke Noseworthy (St. Anthony, NF)  notched her first goal of the AUS season 10:06 into the first period off a set-up from Alley Goodreau (Airdrie, AB).

The Aigles Bleues replied with a power play marker less than two minutes later by Janelle Graham (Dieppe, NB), assisted by Brittany Poitras (Saint André, NB).

Freshman StFX defense Amy Graham (Nepean, ON) restored the X-Women lead with a nice shot from the top of the face-off circle off a Kate Gotaas (Sherwood Park, AB) pass. Kristen McKinley (Rothesay, NB) also had a helper on the play.

Shots favored the X-Women 11-10 in the first period as they held onto the 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Oddy increased the StFX lead to 3-1 with a nice shorthanded goal at 10:40 of the second period. Linemate Sarah Bujold (Riverview, NB) pounced on a quick turnover and fed a breakaway pass to Oddy who made no mistake beating Aigles Bleues netminder Gabrielle Forget (Joliette, QC).

StFX's fourth goal of the game came less than five minutes later as McKinley jumped on a rebound in front of the Moncton net and buried the puck high over the shoulder of Forget.

The X-Women held the 4-1 lead after two periods.

They quickly went up 5-1 when Bujold scored 34 seconds into the third period. Oddy brought the puck into the Moncton zone and from behind the net passed out in front to Bujold who deposited it for her eighth goal of the season.

Marie-Pier Corriveau (Magog, QC) netted Moncton's second goal, again on the power play, at the 7:31 mark of the third period. Katryne Villeneuve (Casselman, ON) assisted on the play.

Daley scored her second goal of the night midway through the third period on a nice set-up from Graham on a two-on-one to extend the StFX lead to 6-2.

The score held for the win as the X-Women outshot the Aigles Bleues 28-25 on the night. Carley Molnar (London, ON) picked up the win in the StFX net.

The X-Women are back in action Saturday afternoon in a quick turnaround as they travel to Charlottetown to face the UPEI Panthers in a 3:00 pm match.

The Aigles Bleues will host Dalhousie Saturday at 4:00 pm.
